Mental Health
Mental Health is to do with our minds, the way we think and feel:
• Coping with stress
• Liking Yourself
• Feeling bad things as well as good
Stress is something we all have in our lives in which we have to learn how to cope with it without reaching for ‘your thing’ be it cigarettes, chocolate or shouting at someone.
Effects Of Stress
There are many effects of stress some of which, poor sleep, restlessness, tension, irritability, exhaustion, anxiety, aggression, frustration, over or under eating, loss of self esteem, lack of concentration, palpitations, feelings of isolation or loneliness.
Prolonged stress can lead to some medical disorders such as:
• High Blood Pressure
• Depression
• Peptic Ulcers
Coping With Stress
Take regular exercise to release tension – walking, swimming, jogging, circuit training, weight training.
Learn how to relax – yoga, meditation or if you know of something that will relax you like listening to music, reading a book or generally take time out to look after yourself.
Express your feelings – write down what is bothering you or talk to family, partner, friends about it.
Learn To Like Yourself
Ask your friends and family what they like about you, you may be pleasantly surprised.
Take each day at a time and accept others as they accept you. Holding onto the past of old hurts or any wrongs done to you will only increase anxiety and stress. Learn to let go and move on with your life.
